Founder and Executive Director

As the Founder and Executive Director of Tropics International Ltd., Sankara leads the organization in service of its mission to address limited access to quality education, educational inequity, poor agricultural practices, climate instability, and poverty. He is a strong believer in moving beyond isolated interventions and advancing an integrated approach to these overlapping challenges so that progress in one area reinforces and sustains progress across the whole. In his role as Chief Executive Officer, Sankara oversees program quality, reporting systems, partnership development, fundraising strategy, and compliance across U.S. and Ugandan operating environments.

Sankara’s upbringing in Uganda instilled in him a drive to use his lived experience of resilience and navigating systemic hurdles to help tackle interconnected systemic challenges. He began his career doing that through education, serving as a lead teacher and department chair at international schools in Kampala before moving to New York City. Over the last twelve years, he has served as a High School French Teacher in New York City and as a curriculum coordinator, writer, and world languages content lead for a tri-state educational network, where he managed instructional strategies and professional development for teachers across New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

He holds a Master of Arts in French and Francophone Studies from Virginia Tech University (USA). He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, with a focus on French and History, from Makerere University (Uganda). He holds a New York State Professional Teaching License in French (Grades 7–12) and is fluent in several languages, including English, French, and Swahili.”
